Character Creation
There are three ways to create characters in Valentina Noir:
- Manually enter the character's details. Enter each facet and trait of the character one by one.
- Autogenerate a single character with random attributes. This is a quick way to create a character. You can specify the character's class, experience level, skill focus, concept, or you can let the system randomly select everything for you. This is a great option for Storytellers who want to quickly create NPCs.
- Autogenerate multiple characters and choose the one you want to keep. Begin a character creation session where multiple characters are randomly generated. You will be presented with a list the character and given an opportunity to select the one you want to keep. Depending on your Company's settings, this may cost experience points.
Character Concepts
Valentina Noir has a concept system that grants characters specific specialties and abilities. The built-in character concepts are:
- Ascetic - A disciplined martial artist who harnesses their inner chi to perform incredible feats and attacks. Specialties:
- Focus - Gathering their Chi, the monk can resist gases, poisons, psionic attacks, and hold their breath one turn per existing
stamina+willpower. Monks are immune to the vampiric discipline ofDominate. - Iron hand - Deliver a single punch, once per scene, with damage augmented by spending
willpower,1point per damage level.

- Berserker - A fierce warrior who taps into their primal rage to gain incredible strength and combat prowess. Specialties:
- Frenzy - Ignore the first inflicted health levels of damage with no penalty up until
Mauled, and cannot be stunned. Barbarians also gain an automatic success on any strength roll once per turn, equal to a permanent dot in Potence.

- Businessman - An astute and savvy individual focused on commerce and negotiation, skilled in the art of deal-making and resource management. Specialties:
- Persuasion - The Businessman can enthrall his enemies and win them over with her powers of facts and logic. This is less of a fast power and more of a sustained one.
- Wealth - The businessman has access to $$$ and knows how to make more of it. Start with a
Resourcesof2.
- Crusader - A dedicated sentinel sworn to a code of conduct, armed with divine, academic, and martial skills. Specialties:
- Incorruptible - Heal 1 health level to a target once per turn. Any First Aid/medicine roles are also automatically granted one success. Starts with a
Faithof1, equivalent to a Discipline. Crusaders can repel supernatural beings for every success on a Faith role. - Weapon of Choice - Crusaders choose a single weapon they are loyal to and stick with it. Can re-roll any single roll with this weapon once per turn. Can also gain a new specialization at
3,4and5dots, granting an additional die whenever a specialized weapon is used.
- Incorruptible - Heal 1 health level to a target once per turn. Any First Aid/medicine roles are also automatically granted one success. Starts with a
- Healer - A devout servant of gods or higher powers, with the ability to heal and protect. Specialties (Choose 1):
- Heal - Heal 3 health levels to a target once per turn. Any First Aid/medicine roles are also automatically granted one success.
- True Faith - Starts with a
Faithof3, equivalent to a Discipline. Clerics can repel supernatural beings for every success on a Faith role.
- Performer - A charismatic performer and spellcaster who uses their artistry and magic to inspire and manipulate. Specialties:
- Fast Talk - Performers have an automatic success on any
charisma,expressionorperformanceroll, and can immediately command attention. This works even in combat, functionally freezing enemies, including groups, for the first turn. Note that the performer needs to keep doing their act for this to work, they can't drop their guitar and pick up a gun without ruining the effect.

- Scientist - An expert who draws power from their study of esoteric knowledge, with unique and potent abilities and gear. Specialties:
- Delicate Equipment - Choose any Thaumaturgical/Blood Magic Paths from the Vampire or Sorcerer book. Apply
3dots spread however. These should be represented as Tools or scientific equipment that generate the effect. The Lure of Flames might be an experimental flamethrower or backpack-mounted Laser, Lightning might be some weather equipment, and so on. The equipment can be carried gear, but must be present to create the effect.

- Shaman - A nature-focused spiritualist who wields the power of the natural world. Specialties (Choose 2):
- Familiar - A trained animal that can carry out simple commands.
- Friend of Animals - Per
Animalismlevel1 - Spirit Sight - Sees the dead, naturalistic spirits, places of power. Can detect supernatural beings, and penetrate spells, illusions and glamour on a
perception+occultroll with a difficulty of4. - Read Auras - Learn various qualities of a person from their aura
- Astral Projection - Free your mind to travel the world in astral form
- Remove Frenzy - Can cool vampires frenzy, werewolves' rage, etc. They become passive for two turns.
- Soldier - A skilled warrior with a wide range of combat abilities and weapon expertise. Specialties (Choose 1):
- Firearms Specialist - Can re-roll any single Firearms roll once per turn. Can also specialize in new firearms at
3,4and5dots, granting an additional dice whenever a specialized weapon is used. - Hand-to-hand Specialist - Can re-roll any single
Brawlroll once per turn. Can also gain a new specialization at3,4and5dots, granting an additional die whenever a specialized martial arts style is used. - Melee Specialist - Can re-roll any single
Meleeroll once per turn. Can also gain a new specialization at3,4and5, granting an additional die whenever a specialized melee weapon is used.
- Firearms Specialist - Can re-roll any single Firearms roll once per turn. Can also specialize in new firearms at
- Tracker - A skilled hunter and tracker with a deep connection to the wilderness and survival skills, or the equivalent for the urban jungle. Specialties:
- Camouflage - The Tracker can camouflage into their preferred environment given 1 turn of preparation. This is not invisibility! They can be detected on a
Perception(orFocus) roll with a difficulty of8. Any attacks made from this position are considered surprise attacks. - Surprise Attack - Surprise attacks do an additional
3successes of damage. This is a first-strike ability and subsequent attacks are no longer a surprise unless they can be plausibly silent.
- Camouflage - The Tracker can camouflage into their preferred environment given 1 turn of preparation. This is not invisibility! They can be detected on a
- Tradesman - A skilled artisan or laborer who excels in a specific trade or craft, such as blacksmithing, carpentry, or alchemy, often creating items of great value. Specialties:
- Hardiness - The equivalent of
Fortitude1. All attacks sustained automatically soak1success at no cost. - Handy - Free dot in
RepairandCrafts.

- Under-worlder - A sneaky and dexterous individual skilled in stealth, lock picking, and traps. Specialties:
- Tools of the Trade - The character has an object: (a set of lockpicks, a laser drill, a getaway car, a printing press) -- when used, decreases the difficulty by
2. This means, for example, a Forger will have a standard difficulty of 4 to attempt any forgery, provided they have their printing press, and a cat burglar can get in anywhere, with his rope and lockpicks. - Professional - Any single
